KUCHING: Two innovative electrical substation switchyards are set to be established in Gedong and Sebuyau, with the goal of enhancing the electricity supply capacity in those regions.
Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the Sarawak government has allocated RM150 million to upgrade electricity infrastructure across Kota Samarahan division, covering Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau, Sebangan, Simunjan, and Gedong.
“Gedong will have a 33kV substation switchyard, which is part of the RM150 million allocation, while the substation switchyard in Sebuyau will be funded by Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).
“The cost of each substation is at least RM25 million,” he said this when met by reporters today (Apr 1).
On another note, Julaihi expressed hope that unscheduled power outages will be minimised in the future.
“From time to time, unexpected events such as damages inflicted by third parties, including cable breakages, may occur.
“Nonetheless, there exist certain circumstances that remain beyond our control,” he said.
Julaihi was responding to a recent power outage at the Batu Kitang Water Treatment Plant on Mar 30, which forced the facility to rely on backup generators.
He assured that the public will be informed in advance if any scheduled power shutdowns are required for upgrading works.
