KUCHING: Gedong will see major development over the next two to three years, with key projects including a new mosque, integrated administrative centre and community hub already in early construction phases.
Premier’s special representative in Gedong, Datuk Seri Naroden Majais, said these projects are part of a wider development strategy under the Sarawak government and are being implemented in phases across the river in the constituency.
“At the moment, only preliminary works like site expansion and sand filling are visible, but these buildings will begin to emerge one by one,” he said.
He said this after leading a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) yesterday (Jul 7).

Naroden added that other infrastructure projects are underway, including highways and road upgrades that will significantly improve regional connectivity.
He said the Isthmus area is being positioned as a new growth centre that will benefit Gedong directly through improved access and facilities.
“One involves a highway from Serian via Munggu Kupi to Isthmus, continuing to Goebilt through Tanjung Embang, featuring four lanes and a dedicated Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) track.
“Another package will upgrade the old road linking Isthmus and Samarahan, with a separate stretch connecting Isthmus to Simunjan,” he said.
Separately, the Premier also outlined plans for direct air cargo services from Kuching to Singapore to support local industry and market access.
“This will create great export opportunities for agropreneurs and small industry players to ship their products abroad more efficiently,” said Naroden.
