KUCHING: GEMAPUTERA XVIII Sarawak 2026 concluded after seven days, strengthening unity, collaboration and strategic ties among Malaysia’s state economic development corporations through sport and shared engagement.

The biennial sporting event brought together more than 1,000 athletes and officials representing 13 state economic development corporations (SEDCs) and one Federal Territory from across the country.

In a press statement issued by SEDC today, Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) emerged as the overall champion of GEMAPUTERA XVIII Sarawak 2026, while Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) finished second and Penang Development Corporation (PDC) placed third.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that GEMAPUTERA has successfully established a strong foundation of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect among the SEDC family in Malaysia.

He highlighted that the relationships developed through the games represent a valuable form of strategic connectivity, built upon trust, unity and a shared commitment towards supporting national development.

“GEMAPUTERA is not merely a sporting platform, but an important initiative that strengthens ties among state development institutions, nurtures human capital, and fosters a greater sense of belonging among SEDC employees,” he said.

His speech was read out by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, during the closing ceremony of the event on Saturday (Aug 1).

The ceremony also witnessed the symbolic handover of the GEMAPUTERA flag from the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to Johor Corporation (JCORP), which will host the upcoming GEMAPUTERA XIX Games in Johor.

The handover marks the continuation of GEMAPUTERA’s legacy as a platform that brings together the SEDC family and strengthens cooperation among state economic development corporations nationwide.
