KUCHING: Renowned local artist Gerald Goh has brought Sarawak’s entrepreneurial journey to life through his award-winning two-piece mural installation.
Titled “The Origins of SMEs in Sarawak” and “A Tribute to Entrepreneurship”, the murals trace the state’s business growth from the Brooke era to present day.

His submission, the only interactive 3D mural in the Tropics City Mural Pillars Competition, earned him the gold prize and RM3,000 cash.
The SME Association of Sarawak, a key supporter of the initiative, presented the award to Goh during a brief ceremony led by its president Jordan Ong.
“This is a meaningful platform that beautifies public spaces while uplifting local talent and promoting creative entrepreneurship,” Ong said in a press statement.
He described Goh’s work as a striking representation of the state’s values of peace, trade and enterprise that shaped its business identity.
Organised by Tropics City, the competition aimed to revitalise urban spaces and promote storytelling through public art by locals who are skillfully creative.
Tropics City executive director Nicholas Wong also gave SME Sarawak council members a walk-through of the completed murals.
He explained the project’s goal of transforming cityscapes into inclusive and vibrant spaces through collaboration with the local creative community.
“The SME Association of Sarawak remains committed to supporting initiatives that nurture local creativity and strengthen the socio-economic fabric of the community,” the statement said.
