KOTA SAMARAHAN: Rising women’s football star Marissa Graciewenndy Robert, 13, describes her recent stint at the Women’s Football Development Camp in Dahn, Germany, Aug 17–24, as an invaluable experience.
The Kampung Sungai Batu forward is determined to put the skills she learned into action in upcoming local tournaments.
“It was an amazing experience training with German players. I hope the knowledge I gained becomes a benchmark to improve my game, not just in Sarawak, but across Malaysia,” she says.
During the eight-day camp, Marissa learned techniques, tactics and playing styles under German coaches. The experience helped boost her confidence and sharpen her skills on the field.
She made history as the only Malaysian female player to train in Germany, one of the leading nations in women’s football.
Marissa previously trained with Sarawak’s National Football Development Programme (NFDP) from ages 10 to 12.
She now trains under the Sarawak Women’s Football Development Programme managed by the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and the Samarahan Football Academy under Sahmura Kenyalang Football Club.
She also represents the academy in the Petronas Youth Closed Football Tournament for Under-14 and Under-16 categories this year.
Her father, Robert Sulis, expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported her development. “Our family is grateful for all the support and cooperation given to Marissa,” he says.
Marissa hopes the experience in Germany will serve as a stepping stone to greater achievements in her football career, both locally and nationally.
