KUCHING: The Giant Family Ride 2026 attracted about 100 cyclists from Malaysia and overseas, further strengthening Sarawak’s position as a growing cycling tourism destination.
Organised by Giant Bicycles Malaysia with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak, the two-day event brought together participants from West Malaysia, Sabah, China, Costa Rica, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Held under the theme “Ride Sarawak: Where City Meets Nature”, the programme featured a 90-kilometre (km) scenic ride through Sarawak’s countryside and highland roads on the first day, followed by a 70-km Kuching City Ride showcasing the city’s heritage areas, waterfront and iconic landmarks on the second day.
“Beyond the cycling experience, many participants extended their stay to explore Kuching’s food, culture and tourism attractions, contributing to the local visitor economy and reinforcing the value of sports tourism as a catalyst for destination development,” the organiser said in a statement.

The organisers added that the event reflected Sarawak’s growing appeal among domestic and international cycling communities through its combination of scenic routes and local hospitality.
They said the successful staging of the programme further positioned Kuching as a preferred destination for future cycling events and eco-tourism experiences.
The organisers also expressed appreciation to MTCP Sarawak, government agencies, sponsors, volunteers, safety personnel and participants for their support in ensuring the event’s success.
They added that Giant Bicycles Malaysia looked forward to welcoming more riders to Sarawak in future editions while continuing to promote healthy lifestyles and the state’s tourism offerings to the international cycling community.
