KUCHING: National bowler Gillian Lim is taking her recent performance at the 43rd Malaysian International Open Bowling Championship in stride after a challenging outing saw her fall short of expectations.
The Miri-born athlete, a standout figure in the Malaysian bowling scene and last year’s champion of the 42nd edition, admitted that this year’s campaign didn’t go as planned.
“It definitely wasn’t the result I had hoped for. The lane conditions were particularly challenging this time, and unfortunately, luck just wasn’t on my side,” she told Sarawak Tribune when contacted recently (Apr 20)
Despite the setback, the Sarawakian — who placed 17th in this year’s competition held at the Sunway Mega Lanes — is maintaining a positive outlook.
“It’s a learning experience, and I’ll be taking this as motivation to sharpen my approach and preparation moving forward. Every competition teaches me something new,” she said.
Describing the tournament as a grind from start to finish, Gillian acknowledged that the absence of a turning point made this edition tougher than most.
“But those are the kinds of days that build resilience, and I’m carrying that forward,” she added.
The 26-year-old isn’t slowing down — she is set to head to Singapore this coming Tuesday to compete in the 3rd Sonic International Classic (Apr 23–26), bringing with her a renewed focus and determination to bounce back on the international stage.
