SIBU: Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu branch in collaboration with Sibu General Hospital is set to organise World Blood Donor Day 2025 at Kingwood Hotel here on July 6.
Organising chairperson, Dr Rachel Teng Li Cin said other partners for the event include Liangtye Trading Sdn Bhd, Lions Club of Sibu Berjaya, Lions Club of Sibu Queensway, Sri Minyak Group, Mytown Pharmacy, Biolife Lab (Sibu) Sdn Bhd and Alpro Pharmacy in carrying out several activities.
“The theme for this year is ‘Give blood, Give hope: Together we save lives’.
“According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to raise public awareness about the critical need for blood and plasma donations and the impact they have on patients’ lives.
“Besides, encouraging both new and existing donors to give blood regularly, helping to ensure a stable and sufficient blood supply; highlight the positive impact of blood donors on the health and well-being of others and promote the values of solidarity, compassion, and community through blood donation.
“In addition, other objectives are also to mobilise support from governments and development partners to invest in and sustain national blood programmes to achieve universal access to safe blood transfusion worldwide,” she told a press conference held at MRCS Sibu branch premises, Jalan Awang Rambli Amit here on Thursday.
Dr Teng, who is also MRCS Sibu branch vice chairperson, said various activities will be organised on that day including blood donation from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon; organ donation recruitment drive from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm; children colouring contest from 9:00 am to 10:00 am; health campaign from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and blood donors’ recognition ceremony.
In addition, she stated that active blood donation organisers will be given due recognition as they have been diligently organising blood donation campaigns throughout the pandemic to ensure that the blood stock level at Sibu Hospital remains adequate.
She added that Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the Minister of Health, Housing and Local Government will be the event’s guest of honour and chairman of MRCS Sarawak Chapter, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam as the special guest.
Among those present were MRCS Sibu branch chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee and MRCS Sibu branch deputy chairman, Hii Sieh Toh.
