KUCHING: Full support has been given to plans by the Sarawak Bumiputera Consulting Engineers Association (GJPBS) to build an excellence training centre in Kota Samarahan.
The support came from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, who said the initiative is important in providing continuous training for GJPBS members, particularly in terms of enhancing knowledge, skills and the use of the latest equipment and technology.
“We support all of GJPBS’ plans, not only in terms of knowledge and skills but also regarding equipment and technology needs.”

Fadillah told reporters this after officiating the opening ceremony of the GJPBS’ new office and training centre at Riveredge Commercial Centre here today.
Meanwhile, GJPBS chairman Irwan Zulkarnain Muhammad Hasbie anticipates that the excellence centre can be built within the next three years in an area that houses most professional associations and organisations, namely Pentagon Samarahan.
He said the site approval was only obtained from the Land and Survey Department in 2023, so many processes still need to be carried out, including preparing the drawing plans and submitting applications to the State Planning Authority (SPA).
“In addition, the process of appointing contractors also needs to go through tender procedures. All of this takes time before the excellence centre can be built.”
He added that building the centre is a good start for the association but continuous efforts are needed to raise funds to realise the project.
“This follows discussions and commitments we have conveyed to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg previously, namely, to establish a dedicated excellence training centre for our members.”
Commenting on the inauguration ceremony, he said the opening of the new office and training centre aims to become a focal point for members, stakeholders and clients.
Additionally, Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, contributed RM50,000 to support the establishment of the new office.
“Besides functioning as an administrative office, this space will also operate as a training centre to organise engagement sessions and training together with industry professionals,” he said.
