GLASGOW, Scotland: National powerlifter, Nicodemus Manggoi Moses, narrowly missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in the men’s heavyweight category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games here tonight (early Saturday morning Malaysian time).
Nicodemus recorded a best lift of 200 kilogrammes (kg) to accumulate 120.3 points in the final at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Armadillo.
Nigeria’s Riluwan Idris clinched the gold with 132.8 points through a best lift of 208 kg, England’s Matthew Harding took the silver after lifting 199 kg for 131.0 points, and India’s Jhandu Kumar secured the bronze with a best lift of 190kg for 130.9 points.
Meanwhile, Bryan Junency Gustin, the elder brother of national powerlifting champion, Bonnie Bunyau, failed to register a successful lift after all three of his attempts – 196 kg, 196 kg and 201 kg – were ruled unsuccessful.
Earlier, Bonnie failed to defend his men’s lightweight gold medal after winning the bronze medal.
The one-day powerlifting competition concluded today.
In Commonwealth Games para powerlifting, athletes are divided by gender into lightweight and heavyweight categories, with the medal standings determined by a points system based on their best successful lift and body weight. – BERNAMA
