KUCHING: The spirit of international cooperation and community wellness was on full display at the 11th International Day of Yoga celebration held at the Indian Association Multipurpose Hall, Jalan Rock.

Themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, the event was jointly organised by the Brahma Kumaris Foundation Kuching Branch, the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur, and the Indian Association of Kuching — reflecting a growing global commitment to promote holistic health through traditional practices.

Officiating the event, Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Ir Lo Khere Chiang highlighted the relevance of yoga as a tool for both personal wellbeing and collective harmony.

“Yoga is not just about physical fitness; it is a science that unites the body, mind, and spirit.

“In today’s world, where environmental and emotional stresses are rising, yoga provides a much-needed path to inner balance and outer peace,” he said.

He commended the efforts of the organisers and collaborators for bringing the community together in a meaningful way, while also underlining Sarawak’s strength in cultural inclusivity and harmony.

“This event reflects the values we hold dear in Sarawak: unity in diversity, peace, and mutual respect,” he added.

Attendees were also treated to a series of performances, including wushu, gymnastics, and yoga demonstrations — showcasing both talent and the spirit of wellness among the participants.

The International Day of Yoga is observed annually on June 21, following a United Nations resolution initiated by India in 2014. It continues to serve as a platform to promote not only physical and mental health, but also international understanding and goodwill.

Also present were SUPP Batu Lintang Branch Chairman Sih Hua Tong, Board of Trustees Member Cindy Lim, Kuching Branch Manager Loh Fu Min, Kuching Indian Association President Ratha Perumall, and Managing Director and CEO of TSG Group of Companies, Datuk Chris Chung Soon Nam.
