LUBOK ANTU: The General Operations Force (GOF) here thwarted a foreigner’s attempt to smuggle four subsidised gas cylinders out of Sarawak two weeks ago.

Sarawak GOF Brigade Commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said the operation took place on Sept 17 when the 10th Battalion intercepted a motorcycle near the Malaysia-Indonesia border.

Further checks found that the 50-year-old foreign man was attempting to smuggle scheduled controlled goods without valid documents.

“Officers seized four subsidised gas cylinders and one motorcycle, with a total estimated market value of between RM5,720-RM720 for the cylinders and RM5,000 for the motorcycle.

“The suspect and the seized items were handed over to the Lubuk Antu District Police Headquarters (IPD) and the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Kuching Branch for further action,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 20(8) of the Gas Distribution Ordinance 2016, the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Section 15(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

From Jan 1 to Sept 28, the Sarawak GOF Brigade has recorded enforcement success amounting to RM362 million, involving 444 cases, 540 arrests, and the seizure of 272 vehicles.
