BAU: The General Operations Force (GOF) thwarted a local man’s attempt to smuggle frozen beef worth over RM380,000 in an operation last week.

Sarawak GOF Brigade deputy commander ACP Rosdi Inai said the operation, codenamed ‘Op Taring Awas/Batas’, was carried out by the GOF 11th Battalion at 2.30 pm on May 7.

The team intercepted a lorry in the district, which was believed to be transporting frozen food products without a valid permit.

“Inspections led to the discovery of 5,000kg of frozen beef in the lorry’s cargo, which is worth an estimated RM385,000, according to market prices.

“The 49-year-old driver was taken into custody for further action,” he said.

Rosdi said the suspect and seized goods were handed over to the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS) Bau Branch for further action.

The case is being probed under Section 17(1) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999.
