SERIAN: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized three air rifles and 60 boxes of frozen beef, valued at a combined RM66,300, in two separate border operations this week.
Sarawak GOF Brigade Commander, SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang, said the seizures were made during ‘Ops Taring Awas/Batas’ on Monday and Tuesday (April 21 and 22), near the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
In Monday’s operation around 4.00 am, a team from the GOF 23rd Battalion was patrolling an illegal route when they detected a suspicious white sack.
“Inside the sack were three air rifles and three boxes of ammunition. The seized items are estimated to be worth RM18,300 based on market value.
“The firearms were handed over to the Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigations under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960,” he said in a statement.
The next day, the same battalion was conducting patrols around 12.00 pm near an illegal route in Tebedu when they found several black packages hidden in bushes.
Che Ghazali added that checks led to the finding of 60 boxes of frozen goods worth RM48,000, according to market price.
“The frozen goods were handed over to Tebedu police station for further investigations under Section 17(1) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999,” he said.
