LUBOK ANTU: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) thwarted a foreigner’s bid to smuggle subsidised cooking oil and rice near the Malaysia-Indonesia border on Monday (May 5).
The integrated operation, codenamed ‘Op Taring Awas/Batas’, was jointly carried out by the GOF 10th Battalion, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sri Aman branch, Immigration Department, Paddy and Rice Supervision and Lubok Antu traffic police.
Bukit Aman’s Internal Security and Public Order Department said the smuggling attempt was detected along an illegal route when authorities intercepted an Indonesian man attempting to smuggle out the controlled goods.
Also seized was a motorcycle, five boxes of cooking oil packets, and two bags of rice, with an estimated value of RM7,480.
Both the suspect and the seized goods were handed over to the relevant agencies for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 20 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961; Control of Padi and Rice Act 1994; Sections 26(1) and 14(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987; and Section 5(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
