Golden finish for Malaysia’s wushu exponents in Bangkok

BANGKOK: Malaysia capped their wushu campaign at the 33rd SEA Games Thailand 2025 on a high note after collecting two gold medals, one silver and two bronze on the final day of competition.

From six finals contested yesterday (Dec 14), Malaysia secured five medals, drawing the curtain at the Ratthaprasasanaphakdi Building venue with an overall tally of three gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

The first gold medal on the final day came in the women’s Nandao event, where Tan Cheong Min delivered an outstanding performance to claim the title in the final.

The national athlete amassed a total of 29.263 points from the combined Nanquan, Nandao and Nangun routines, defeating Vietnam’s Dang Trang Phuong, who scored 29.112 points, while Singapore’s Ong Xue Ling Kasandra took bronze with 28.579 points.

Another national athlete, Pang Pui Yee, produced a consistent display to win the silver medal in the women’s Jianshu category.

She collected 29.139 points to finish second behind Indonesia’s Geraldine Patricia (29.266), with Singapore’s Lee Yin Shuen settling for bronze after scoring 29.055 points.

Pang Pui Yee and Tan Cheong Min continued their strong showing in the next event, teaming up with Loh Yin Ting to deliver Malaysia’s next gold medal in the women’s weapon duilian.

The women’s trio struck gold with a score of 9.730 points, edging Thailand (9.646) and Myanmar (9.606) in a final involving six countries.

Meanwhile, Malaysia also added to their medal haul through Ti Bryan Kai Jie, who claimed bronze in the men’s Nangun event.

Bryan scored 29.225 points to finish third behind Brunei’s Roslan Adi Salih, who won gold with 29.329 points, and Singapore’s Lim Yi Jie Randall, who took silver with 29.242 points, in a final contested by 11 countries.

Another bronze medal came in the men’s barehanded duilian after the trio of Shin Peng, Muhammad Danish Aizad and Wong Zhi Hong delivered a polished performance in the final held in Bangkok today (Dec 15).

The Malaysian trio posted 9.626 points to finish third, behind Indonesia, who won gold with 9.746 points, while Myanmar secured silver with 9.706 points in a final featuring four countries.
