BINTULU: Two housing projects in Bintulu, Golden Hill Villa 2 and Treetops, are showing signs of recovery after the state government implemented measures to safeguard buyers’ interests.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, said the government was committed to monitoring both projects until full completion.
Golden Hill Villa 2, developed by Homemas Development (Bintulu) Sdn Bhd, has been delayed since 2014 due to retaining wall issues and a land dispute with neighbouring owners, preventing the issuance of Occupancy Permits (OP).
“To address this, the ministry supports Anna Synergy Berhad, the rescue contractor that took over the project in August 2025,” he said during a site visit on Thursday.
The project will be implemented in two phases: Phase 1 for units unaffected by the land dispute, and Phase 2 for units involved in boundary issues. This approach aims to speed up the issuance of Road Certificates and OPs so buyers can move in sooner.
Meanwhile, the Treetops project, developed by Twin Revenue Sdn Bhd, involves 585 serviced apartment units in Towers A, B, and C and has been delayed since 2021.
Delays were caused by the construction of a Sarawak Energy substation requiring large-scale hill blasting, pandemic-related disruptions and labour shortages.
“The main structural works are complete. Work now focuses on internal wiring, painting and installation of fittings,” Tiang said.
He added that the ministry had enforced monitoring measures, issued compounds and reviewed advertising and sales permits to ensure developers comply with recovery plans.
Tiang emphasised that the state government would not tolerate delays that compromised public interest.
“Homebuyers’ interests remain our priority. We demand clear commitment, realistic action plans and disciplined execution from developers,” he said.
He assured that both projects were expected to be completed in phases within two to three years, subject to compliance with approved work plans.
“The Sarawak government will continue to support homebuyers and ensure all legal and enforcement channels are fully utilised to protect public interests,” he added.
