KUCHING: Sarawak Artistic Gymnastic (AG) team under the guidance of the Bulgarian coaches Bogomil Ivanov Momchilov and Gergana Momchilova continued to excel in the Malaysian School Gymnastics Sports Meet (MSSM) where they bagged 32 medals (14 golds, 6 silvers and 12 bronzes) to finish fourth overall in the recent MSSM competition held in
Sg Petani Kedah from March 24 to 28.

The team also won the gold medal in team all-around final for girls under 12 category.

Sarawak sent 17 gymnasts comprising seven boys and 10 girls a mix of senior and young gymnasts.

The senior gymnasts who were also from the State Sukma team in Perak 2018 showed good outing in the competition.

They were Ally Hamuda Obeng, 17, from SMK Tun Abg Hj Openg who won 1 gold 1 bronze, Cassandra Lavigne Shelden, 16, from SMK Kuching High (3 golds, 1 silver), Audrey Jude Rendih Alexander, 16, from SMK St Mary’s (1 silver, 1 bronze), Damya Dameerah Suhaimi, 13, from SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman (3 golds, 1 silver, 1 bronze) and Alya Sofia Abdul Razak, 13, from SMK St Mary’s (1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze).

Among the young winners who have shown their potentials were Audi Zulkarnien, 12, from SK St Mary’s (4 golds, 1 silver), Nur Shahrina Azrina Nohd Hidzam, 12, of SK Merpati Jepang (2 bronzes), Nur Qurratu Aini Norasharuddin, 11, from SK Jalan Muara Tuang (1 gold, 2 silvers, 1 bronze), debutants 10-year-old boys Ariel Adrian Tubi Mandang of SK Astana Kuching (2 bronzes) and Joachim Rafael Ambrose from SK Bandar Samariang (1 bronze).

Sarawak MSSM contingent were coordinated by Education Department’s technical officer Yenny Juing and led by team manager Madalene Osup from SMK Tebakang, Serian and assisted by some teachers-in-charge Atung Asaul (assistant coach), Fiona Jueng (assistant coach), Chong Pei San and Tahot Sulai.

The AG team thanked the Sarawak Sports Council (MSN), Sarawak Sports Corporation |(SSC) and Sarawak Amateur Gymnastic Association for
their support throughout the
competition.
