SIBU: A free health screening, government mobile services cum legal consultation programme, organised by Brooke Drive Neighbourhood Committee (KRT Persiaran Brooke) under the Ministry of National Unity at Hoover Building, Masland Church in Island Road here recently, received a good public response.
According to KRT Persiaran Brooke chairperson Melinda Wong, a total of 136 individuals had attended the event.
She state that the health screening and various services included body mass index (BMI), blood pressure and glucose, dental, eye myopia, pap smear, HPA DNA, hyeropia and astigmatism, clinical breast examination, and test kits for colon cancer, doctor consultation, health exhibition, legal consultation and free snow milk drink.
Medical doctors, dentists, optometrists, medical assistants, government officials, lawyers and private agency, she further stated, were present to cater to the required service of the public attendants.
“We hope this health screening will help in identifying if at risk or have any condition or disease that you don’t know about. No doubt early detection of diseases results in better management and treatment of the disease, which increases the chances of better health outcomes.
“Besides health screening, various government departments had come to the ground to set up mobile booths to offer their respective services. For this, Employees Provident Fund (EPF) had also come to the ground providing full EPF services.
“Sibu Divisional Community Welfare Office had also come to help in application of the Kenyalang Gold Card, Senior Citizen Medical Benefits and also application for various assistance. Free legal consultation by lawyers are also available. All the relevant information had indeed benefited greatly to all present. Besides free snow milk is provided for all present.”
Wong added: “Prevention is better than cure. It is our earnest hope that together, we strive towards a healthy society and a strong Malaysia Madani.”
