KUCHING: It is vital to learn the importance of personal data protection and the potential consequences of data breachers, alongside taking the ownership of the role in safeguarding personal data.
During the Personal Data Protection Awareness Talk organised by Sarawak Skills on April 3, Hallman Sabri who is the Sarawak Skills’ executive director, and chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC), said there have been many reported cases where people have been cheated and have lost money through various scams.
“In an age where technology permeates every aspect of our lives, protecting our personal data has become paramount.
“Recent data from the Personal Data Protection Department (PDPD) of Malaysia highlights the growing concern surrounding personal data security. With the proliferation of digital platforms and online transactions, the risk of data breaches and privacy infringements looms large,” he said.
On the talk, he said it goes a long way towards awareness of personal data protection, including the roles and responsibilities of organisations in the important area.
“Indeed, any data breach can have a far-reaching consequence, from financial loss to reputational damage,” he stated.
The talk was attended by more than 250 participants, comprising officials from various government agencies, industry sectors and the Sarawak Skills staff members.
