LUNDU: The government is reviewing and refining its work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants following feedback on implementation challenges and the need for greater flexibility across sectors.
According to Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, the Public Service Department (JPA) recently issued a circular outlining updated WFH guidelines, aimed at standardising remote work practices within the public sector while maintaining service efficiency.
“However, feedback submitted at Cabinet level has highlighted several key concerns. Among them is the need for a more role-specific approach, recognising that certain professions, such as police personnel, teachers and frontline service providers require a physical presence and may not be suited for remote arrangements.
“There are also concerns over the uneven distribution of WFH opportunities, with many roles that allow remote work currently concentrated in urban centres, particularly the capital, potentially disadvantaging civil servants in other regions,” said Nancy when met by reporters during her working visit to IPD Lundu here today.
She said, to address these issues, department heads have been tasked with assessing the suitability of roles within their respective agencies, ensuring that WFH arrangements are applied fairly and effectively.
“The government said the policy will continue to be monitored and refined over time, with the aim of balancing workforce flexibility and productivity while ensuring that public service delivery remains uninterrupted and accessible,” she said.
