KUCHING: Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has reiterated the government’s dedication to addressing education-related issues in Sarawak, including the enhancement of run-down schools.

During her official visit to SMK Santubong yesterday, coinciding with her attendance at the MA63 meeting, Fadhlina praised the endeavours of local leaders, educators, and the school community in propelling enhancements.

She expressed gratitude to Santubong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri for her contributions to the advancement of students in the constituency, along with the school’s administration for its recent accomplishments.

“I commend the school, especially its headteacher and teachers, for their achievements, such as the recent victory of one of its teachers in the Rukun Negara speech competition,” she remarked.

Fadhlina highlighted that her ministry had pinpointed various urgent issues at SMK Santubong and its curriculum centre during the visit.

“These concerns have been scrutinised, and based on reports from the Sarawak Education Department (JPN) and the District Education Office (PPD), we will be devising solutions in the near future,” she stated.

Regarding the issue of dilapidated schools in Sarawak, Fadhlina mentioned that a total of 388 schools, valued at £3.8 billion, had been allocated for renovation, with 259 projects already finalised.

“This stands as an ongoing commitment under the Madani Government to ensure that all projects aimed at upgrading dilapidated schools in Sarawak are completed promptly. Our goal is to offer secure and suitable infrastructure for our children to learn,” she emphasised.

Fadhlina also stressed the significance of synergy between the community, parliamentarians, schools, and education authorities in addressing challenges and elevating the educational standards in Sarawak.
