Governor and wife invited to officiate at literary events

KUCHING: The Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi received a courtesy visit from the Sarawak State Library at Astana Negeri Sarawak yesterday morning (July 28).

Led by Japri Bujang Masli, the chief executive officer of Sarawak State Library, the delegation presented formal letters inviting Wan Junaidi and Fauziah to officiate at two key literary events.

The first invitation was to officiate at the Sarawak Book Fair 2025, scheduled to take place from Aug 27 to Sept 5 at The Hills Mall, Kuching.

The second invitation, extended to Fauziah was to attend the National Reading Decade (Dekad Membaca Kebangsaan) event, scheduled to take place on Aug 16 at the Sarawak State Library.

During the engagement, Wan Junaidi emphasised the critical role of parents in nurturing a love for reading among the younger generation.

He suggested that parents should read books to their children, serving as positive role models, especially in today’s era dominated by social media.

In a light-hearted moment, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah were also introduced to “Amelia”, the official mascot for the National Reading Decade programme.

Wan Junaidi and Fauziah expressed their deep appreciation for the library’s initiatives in promoting reading culture, noting that such efforts are crucial in encouraging knowledge acquisition and mental stimulation among the public.

Additionally, Wan Junaidi urged stakeholders to explore effective strategies to encourage parents to lead by example and revive the culture of reading at home.
