KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar received a courtesy call by a delegation from Majlis Islam Sarawak (MIS) at his official residence in Petra Jaya on Tuesday.

The delegation was led by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Regional Development Agencies, North Kuching City Hall and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

The visit served as an official platform to strengthen cooperation between Majlis Islam Sarawak and the Astana, while providing space for direct discussions on the administration and development of Islamic affairs across the state.

During the meeting, Wan Junaidi was briefed on the strategic direction, roles and functions of Majlis Islam Sarawak, covering its departments and agencies, including the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department, Sarawak Mufti Department, Sarawak Syariah Judiciary Department and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak. Current initiatives aimed at ensuring the orderly, inclusive and legally grounded management of Islamic affairs were also presented.

The session allowed MIS to seek guidance from Wan Junaidi on policy coordination, programme implementation, fatwa gazettement and institutional management, ensuring that Islamic administration in the state aligns with both the interests of the Muslim community and Sarawak’s multi-ethnic, multi-religious society.

Wan Junaidi expressed his appreciation to MIS and all related agencies for their ongoing dedication in upholding the administration of Islamic affairs, safeguarding the sanctity of Islam, and contributing to the overall well-being of the state’s communities.

He expressed hope that the strong working relationship between MIS, the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department, and other relevant institutions would continue to grow, ensuring governance that is integrated, effective and sustainable — in line with Sarawak’s aspiration for a peaceful, harmonious and prosperous state.

Also present were the president of Majlis Islam Sarawak Datuk Misnu Taha; chief Syarie Judge of the Sarawak Syariah Judiciary Department Datuk Awang Suhaili Ledi; general manager of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie; director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department and MIS secretary Ustaz Mual Suaud; director of the Sarawak Mufti Department Ustaz Ahmad Sukarno Saini; along with senior leaders and officers from MIS and related departments.
