KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar became one of the first dignitaries to fly on Sarawak-owned AirBorneo today, boarding the airline’s flight from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur.

Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, arrived at the VIP Terminal of Kuching International Airport (KIA) at 12.15 pm, where they were received by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, State Secretary and AirBorneo chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and AirBorneo board member Datuk Philip Ting.

The Head of State and Toh Puan later boarded AirBorneo flight MY5005 for an official visit to Kuala Lumpur. The flight departed at 1 pm and was scheduled to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 2.50 pm.

Tun Wan Junaidi’s maiden journey aboard the Sarawak-owned carrier is regarded as a significant endorsement of AirBorneo, underscoring the state leadership’s confidence in the airline and its role in strengthening Sarawak’s aviation sector.

The milestone also reflects the state’s commitment to enhancing air connectivity, supporting economic growth and boosting tourism through its own carrier.

Also accompanying the flight were Mohamad Abu Bakar and his wife, Datuk Baduyah Bujang.
