KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar received an official invitation to attend the 2026 National-level Malaysia Day celebration, which will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tomorrow.
The invitation was handed over during a courtesy visit by the Main Committee of the National-level Malaysia Day Celebration at Astana Negeri Sarawak today (Sept 15).
The delegation was jointly led by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil and Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The invitation was presented to Wan Junaidi and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi to attend the celebration scheduled to begin in the evening tomorrow.
Speaking to the media after the courtesy call, Fahmi said Wan Junaidi and Fauziah are expected to arrive at BCCK at 8.15 pm, with the event scheduled to conclude at around 10.30 pm.
“Alhamdulillah, the courtesy visit went very well. Karim and I presented the invitation to His Excellency Tun for the Malaysia Day celebration to be held at BCCK tomorrow, Sept 16,” he said.
He also said preparations for the celebration were proceeding smoothly, including the publication of a special book by the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) for Wan Junaidi.
In addition to the main celebration, several programmes have also been organised in conjunction with Malaysia Day, including a programme organised by the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), a thanksgiving ceremony at Masjid Jamek, and a history exhibition jointly organised by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), the Department of Information Malaysia (JaPEN) and the National Archives of Malaysia.
The exhibition will also feature police and military veterans sharing their experiences and recalling the history of the struggle to defend the nation’s sovereignty.
