MELAKA: Government communication regarding policies and achievements will continue to be improved to ensure that all efforts undertaken are understood and that their impact is felt by the people, said PKR information chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
He said any shortcomings in communication and information delivery need to be addressed so that the government’s achievements in macroeconomic matters, which he described as the “pot economy”, can be translated into tangible benefits that are more closely connected to the people’s everyday lives.
“Many feel that the many successful government policies introduced by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his team are not being sufficiently enjoyed or understood by the majority of the people,” he said during his winding-up speech on behalf of the PKR Central Leadership Council on the second day of the 2026 PKR National Congress here today.
Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister, said the communication approach needs to consider the emotional dimension of the people to ensure that government achievements are not merely known about, but can actually be felt and subsequently find a place in the hearts of the people.
To strengthen the information machinery, Fahmi said PKR would enhance cooperation with grassroots leaders, including division chiefs, to ensure a more effective flow of information to the public.
He said a series of smaller-scale talks would be expanded because this approach allows explanations about issues and policies to be delivered in a more relaxed setting, while also providing opportunities for direct interaction with the people.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said cooperation with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would continue to be strengthened to address the spread of false information and fake accounts that exploit 3R issues, or religion, race and the royal institution.
He said that since the recent Johor state election until yesterday, MCMC had identified more than 8,410 fake accounts exploiting 3R issues and had requested the relevant platforms to take them down.
He said the measure was important to ensure that emotionally charged issues are not manipulated in ways that undermine the public’s understanding of the government’s efforts and achievements.
Fahmi also said any complaints or criticism directed at the media regarding inaccurate information would be handled through proper and respectful channels.
“We are not in a mode of controlling the media, no. But if there is any false information, then we will deal with the media in an orderly and courteous manner to point out that some correction is needed,” he said.
He said the information team would make several adjustments to its communication strategy while strengthening cooperation with the Wanita wing to ensure that information about government policies and achievements reaches the people.
The two-day congress, which began yesterday, will conclude today with the winding-up speech and closing by Anwar. – BERNAMA
