ASAJAYA: A government-owned building housing the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) at Jalan Kampung Semera here was partially destroyed in a fire this morning.

Firefighters from the Asajaya Fire and Rescue station were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 8.09 am.

“It was found that about 40 per cent of permanent building, measuring 30 feet by 30 feet, had been burnt.

“No firefighting operations were carried out as the blaze was already extinguished before the team’s arrival,” the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said in a statement.

The department added that based on eyewitnesses, an explosion had occurred inside the premises.

Safety checks were later carried out to ensure the fire was fully extinguished before declaring the area safe.

No casualties were reported. The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
