MARUDI: The Sarawak government is ramping up rural improvement efforts through the implementation of house repairs and solar lighting projects across the Mulu constituency.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala said these initiatives reflect the state’s continued focus on improving basic infrastructure and living conditions in the interior.
“Through projects like Sarawak Poor Housing Improvement Programme (PPRMS) and solar lighting, we want to ensure that rural communities are not left behind,” he said during a recent working visit to several longhouses.
At Rumah Mulin, Kampung Padang Kerbau A in Lubuk Nibung, six longhouse units are undergoing roof replacement under the PPRMS, involving a total cost of RM44,418.
The works are being carried out through gotong-royong by local residents.
“I’m pleased with the cooperation shown. The gotong-royong spirit reflects a strong sense of ownership and shared responsibility among villagers,” he added.
Gerawat also visited Rumah Kaunselor Michael Salengkor in Sungai Brit to check on a completed solar lighting project, before heading to Rumah Treddie, Sungai Sengkabang to inspect land-filling works for a new longhouse.
He stressed that all projects must be properly monitored to ensure they bring real value to the people.
“The government will not neglect rural areas. What we approve, we want to make sure it truly benefits the community,” he said.
