KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) — The government’s pledge to leave no stone unturned in strengthening Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) through stricter policy and regulatory measures to ensure that similar issues do not recur was among the messages at yesterday’s special Dewan Rakyat sitting.

The government explained how amendments to the Tabung Haji Act 1955 will be implemented in line with the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) at the special sitting which lasted more than 10 hours.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said a task force was established to examine the RCI’s findings and recommendations when tabling the report.

It will be headed by TH chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain and comprises Bank Negara Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour and Securities Commission (SC) chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi.

“I was informed that the task force has agreed to recommend that the management of TH’s funds and investments be regulated by the SC, while matters relating to the management of the haj pilgrimage will be regulated by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), with TH remaining as an intact entity.
