KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2026 on Sunday (April 19) will be a full-day programme centred on the theme ‘PCDS 2030: Visi Jadi Realiti’.

The one-day convention which is expected to gather about 5,000 delegates and party members will be a platform to discuss key policies and strategic directions for Sarawak’s development moving forward.

To be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), it will begin as early as 7:00 am with the arrival of delegates, followed by invited guests and dignitaries.

The arrival of Sarawak Premier and GPS Chairman, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled at 9:00 am, followed by an opening segment with the singing of the national anthem ‘Negaraku’, the state anthem ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’, and the GPS theme song, followed by a prayer recital.

An opening address will be delivered by convention organising chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, followed by speeches from component party leaders, namely Parti Progresif Demokratik (PDP) President, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing; Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) President, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai; and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) President, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

A montage presentation is scheduled before the highlight of the morning session, which is the keynote address and official opening of the convention by Abang Johari at 11:15 am.

The ceremony will also feature a gimmick launch, presentation of tokens of appreciation, and a visit to exhibition booths.

The first session in the afternoon, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, will focus on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), with Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Legal Affairs, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Hajah Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali as the speaker, while Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie will serve as moderator.

The second session, scheduled from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, will discuss the progress of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

It will feature a presentation by former Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, and will be moderated by Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

The convention will conclude with a winding-up speech by the Premier during the closing ceremony from 4:00 pm to 5{30 pm.

A dinner event will thereafter be held at 6:00 pm at BCCK, bringing the convention to a close.
