KUCHING: Sarawakians ought to know that Barisan Nasional (BN) no longer exists in Sarawak and in its place is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), says political analyst Datuk Peter Minos.
With Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) open to the possibility of contesting in the next state election under BN’s ‘dacing’ logo, Minos believes the move could be detrimental to the party as the GPS logo is superior.
“Yes, the BN logo is well known, well-received, and familiar. But that logo is history in Sarawak. We cannot afford to think about it anymore as times have changed.
“If there are any other political group using the BN logo in the coming state election after being approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), there is nothing we can do about it. I hope that, of course, ROS will refuse to approve this,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.
Minos said that using the GPS logo was the way to go as it would not confuse the public about the origin of the party as he assured that Sarawakians would not go for Malaya-based parties.
“GPS, being a new political entity, had to use a new logo. The ‘Kenyalang’ logo is best as it is a symbol of Sarawak while representing the state widely referred to as ‘Bumi Kenyalang’,” said Minos.
He added that the GPS logo would be very popular and widely accepted, especially when Sarawakians knew fully what GPS stood for.
“GPS is the one that fights for Sarawak’s rights and interest while seeking that the state must forever be ruled by Sarawakians and not by Malayans and their cahoots.
“If and when the state election comes, maybe in July, August or September this year, the GPS logo will be seen everywhere and be well known and accepted by Sarawakians,” he claimed.
