KUCHING: There is an urgent need for more Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) representation in urban areas, particularly in parliamentary constituencies.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch Chairman, Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok, called on the public in urban centres to take note of the significant development and progress being delivered through the hard work and dedication of GPS representatives.

“Take Kota Sentosa, for instance. In just two and a half years, assemblyman Wilfred Yap has achieved 93 per cent completion of street lighting under the RTP (Rural Transformation Programme), a major accomplishment when compared to the decades of inaction under the previous Democratic Action Party (DAP) representative.

“His performance speaks volumes about the effectiveness of having a proactive GPS representative.

“We extend our congratulations to Yap for such an impressive start to his tenure, and we are confident that he will continue to deliver on his promises with the same energy and dedication in the second half of his term,” Sim said in his recent statement.

Looking at Batu Kitang, Sim see further examples of effective leadership where assemblyman, Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, has successfully secured nearly RM500 million in funding to resolve the severe traffic congestion at Mile 8.

“In Batu Kawa, under the leadership of our party president, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, we have witnessed impressive urban transformation, a testament to GPS’ capacity for delivering results.

“These achievements highlight what is possible when we have strong GPS representation.

“What we need now is a GPS MP for Stampin to support and amplify the efforts of the three existing assemblymen. We do not have to look far to see the benefits.

“Constituencies like Petra Jaya and Kota Samarahan, which are fully represented by GPS, are enjoying smooth and substantial development,” he added.

Sim then questioned some areas that continue to be represented by a Malayan party that lacks the influence and resources to deliver real progress, when the areas could benefit from full representation and a strong voice in both the state and federal legislatures.

“At present, Stampin is effectively voiceless in Parliament. Our MP (Chong Chieng Jen) has failed to speak up or ask even basic questions on behalf of constituents.

“Whether due to party constraints or lack of initiative, the result is the same, a lack of advocacy and leadership for the people of Stampin.

“Electing a GPS MP would change that.

“Just as Yap has brought change and progress to Kota Sentosa, a GPS MP in Stampin could serve as a powerful agent of development and a strong voice in Parliament,” he said.

Sim have seen how government MPs like Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong (Ayer Hitam MP) continue to make a meaningful impact for Malaysians across the board.

“A GPS MP in Stampin would have the same potential, someone who complements the work of our assemblymen, and brings additional leverage to secure federal support and services for the constituency.

“It is time for a change that delivers real results. It is time for Stampin to have a GPS voice in Parliament,” he said.
