We are tackling issues affecting urban residents too, says Jerip

KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has no intention to discriminate residence in the urban area, said Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil. 

He said in fact the government is taking seriously any problem in regards of traffic congestion in the city. 

“Traffic congestion in the city reflecting the well being of economic development — as the state going to grow and modernity starts to kick in — people starting to buy car and have their own personal vehicle.

“Thus, we do expect for more traffic congestion in the future,” Jerip pointed out in his response to question asked by Pending Assemblywoman Violet Yong. 

According to him, traffic congestion not only happening in the city but also happening in other major city around the world although the cities have more advance traffic system. 

“We have request for police traffic to control at the critical traffic jams road junction but bear in mind we have 140 traffic junctions in Kuching. 

“When contacted, the police traffic informed that they do not have enough traffic policemen but there are traffic polices at critical traffic jam junction to control the traffic flow at Simpang Tiga traffic junction,” he added. 

He said he also has requested for police traffic officer to control the Jalan Tun Razak junction near Sungai Maong road and Foochow road. 

“We hope they will comply with our request,” he said.
