KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) does not take sides in Sabah’s political affairs, leaving it to the people of Sabah to decide their government.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said leaders in Sabah, regardless of whether they were in government or opposition, were considered friends, and Sarawak would not show favouritism.
He said GPS respected the democratic process and hoped Sabahans would use their judgment wisely when Sabah’s state election is called.
“We leave it to the Sabahans to determine who they want to be in the government. We hope everything will be fine down there, and the voters are able to use their own good feelings to determine who should be given the mandate,” he said.
He told the media this after officiating at the DayakDaily’s ‘Homestay Odyssey’ writing competition 2025 award ceremony at Waterfront Hotel here today.
Abdul Karim clarified that his recent visit to Sabah had nothing to do with politics, but rather with a youth programme involving Sabah, Sarawak and Johor.
He explained the programme was initiated by Sarawak in 2023, later hosted by Johor in 2024, and this year held in Sabah with leaders from all three states present.
Abdul Karim stressed that GPS leaders would not campaign in Sabah nor lend support to any party, regardless of political alignment.
“Of course we are not supporting any. Personally, I feel we don’t need to go there and campaign,” he said.
