KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) elected representatives have once again demonstrated discipline, composure and strong debating skills in the just concluded State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said their strong performance and high standards reaffirmed the coalition’s reputation for maintaining order and upholding high legislative standards.

He noted that GPS representatives had upheld a high level of professionalism even when faced with attempts to disrupt proceedings.

“Our standards are high, and our debates are strong. We can manage the situation in the House, even when others try to stir things up,” he said in his speech during the GPS backbenchers gathering here on Wednesday (Dec 3).

Meanwhile, Political Secretary to the Premier Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the Sarawak Budget 2026 is not a document that can be interpreted arbitrarily to suit political narratives.

He explained that the budget is guided by banking principles, proper accounting standards, government accounting formats and established procedures all of which must be clearly understood.

“Sometimes, the confusion from the opposition is not because the budget is limited, but because they interpret the figures the same way they interpret intentions in court,” he said.

Fazzrudin added that the Premier had even resorted to using the simplest analogies to help explain the budget’s mechanics, underscoring the importance of conveying accurate information.

He stressed that while the opposition may continue interpreting the budget as they please, the GPS government will remain focused on delivering its responsibilities.

“From a positive perspective, this means we as the backbenchers’ club must continue playing our role to explain, clarify and ensure the Premier’s and Cabinet’s vision is communicated accurately,” he added.

Also present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and other dignitaries.
