KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will become a catalyst of Malaysia’s modern economy development.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said to achieve this GPS will have to strengthen the state’s economy first.
“When the economy is strengthened, it will create plenty of job opportunities for the younger generations,” he said during the “GPS Townhall Session with the Chief Minister” at Penview Convention Centre (PCC) Demak yesterday.
Johari, who is also GPS president, said GPS catalyst role is in line with number four and number nine of GPS’ pillars, to wit, ‘Building Prosperity and Greater Sarawak’ and ‘Inspiring Future Generations’, respectively.
“With a strong economy, technology and better infrastructure in place, the younger generations and future generations to come will benefit,” he pointed out.
According to him, this is the direction GPS is heading to, and akin to GPS as in the global positioning system, GPS, the coalition “will bring the younger generations and the whole of Sarawak to one single direction, which is the greater path to success and prosperity”.
“We are doing this not for us, but we want to inspire the younger generations so that they can lead Sarawak in years after us,” he said.
Johari said he is not going to be the chief minister forever, and sooner or later someone who is capable and with integrity will take over.
“But remember, leaders may change, but our fight to regain Sarawak’s rights must always become the main priority,” he pointed out.
He then said apart from fighting for Sarawak’s rights, the unity among Sarawakians must be continuously strengthened.
“When people see our peace and harmony among the different races and religion, only then they will be confident is us enough to want to invest in Sarawak.
“And when we have the investment from outside, it will definitely create a strong economy, to our benefit and the benefit of the future generations,” he added.
