KUCHING: Gabungan Party Sarawak (GPS) has confirmed it would help the Unity Government in the six state elections in Peninsular Malaysia.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, however, said GPS would hold a meeting to discuss the matter among GPS component parties.

“We are helping, but in what ways are we helping?

“I have attended the meeting (Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council meeting) chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (on July 11). Therefore, I have to convey to the comrades in GPS first,” he said.

He said this to reporters when asked whether GPS will render their help to the federal government in the upcoming six state elections in Peninsular Malaysia after attending the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Innocement Sdn Bhd with SCG International and YTL Cement Berhad held at Grand Margherita Hotel here today.

Abang Johari, who is also the GPS chairman, further said with Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as the Deputy Prime Minister, as such GPS has to provide its assistance.

Meanwhile, polling day for elections in the states of Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan will be held on Aug 12.
