KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is planning to hold its convention in April, with the tentative date set for April 19 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

GPS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the proposal was discussed during the coalition’s High Council meeting held earlier today (Feb 7) at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters.

“The issue discussed was a proposal by the Premier for GPS to organise its convention, and the date has been tentatively fixed for a Sunday in April,” he said when sharing preliminary details with the media.

Nanta added that representatives from all four GPS component parties will be invited, although the number of delegates has yet to be determined.

He also revealed that a main organising committee has been proposed, to be chaired by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, with the presidents of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) serving as deputies.

“This is still at an early stage, and the chairman will be calling several meetings to form the necessary committees to ensure the convention runs smoothly,” he said.

On the theme, Nanta said it is expected to focus on Sarawak’s Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and the state’s achievements under the roadmap.
