PADAWAN: A routine workday ended in tragedy when a Grab rider was found dead at the Temurang Visitors Information Centre along Jalan Puncak Borneo Heights yesterday (Jul 8).
The victim, identified as 30-year-old Anders Willy Wong from Kampung Sungai Pinang, Bau, was discovered lying motionless on the bamboo floor of a gazebo opposite the visitors’ centre.
Padawan police chief Supt Barry William said he was pronounced dead at 11.24am by an assistant medical officer from Bunuk Health Clinic.
“A police team who arrived at the scene found the victim fully clothed, with his green Yamaha LC135 motorcycle parked beside him. A shoulder bag believed to belong to him was also recovered nearby.
“Initial investigations found no evidence of criminal elements or foul play,” he said.
The victim’s 58-year-old father told police that Anders had worked as a Grab rider for the past four years.
Barry said the victim had left home at around 9am on Tuesday (Jul 7) to begin work but never returned.
The family only became aware of his death after receiving a call informing them that Anders had been found lifeless at the visitors’ centre.
His body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a post-mortem examination.
The case has been classified as sudden death.
