KUCHING: Sarawak-born athlete Grace Wong Xiu Mei continued her commanding form at the 2025 Varsity Track & Field (VTF) Championship Circuit 2, clinching two gold medals and a bronze across three throwing events held at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) Stadium.
Representing Universiti Malaya (UM), Grace broke the championship record in the hammer throw, landing an outstanding distance of 59.27 metres – a mark that not only secured her the top podium finish but also reaffirmed her status as one of Malaysia’s best throwers.
She also bagged gold in the discus throw with a 33.90-metre effort, outperforming competitors in a field full of intensity and grit.
Grace added a bronze to her medal haul in the shot put, registering 10.98 metres behind winner Nani Sahirah Maryata who dominated with 14.15 metres, and runner-up Nurrul Ainin Syauqina Mohd Nor Azahar with 12.10 metres.
The athlete from Sarikei’s stellar performance made her one of the standout performers of the VTF Sirkit 2, held over three days in Terengganu.
Also shining for Sarawak was fellow Sarikeian, Jonah Chang, who clinched gold in the shot put, hammer throw, and discus throw event.
The 2025 Varsity Track & Field (VTF) Championships Circuit 2 took place from June 27 to 29.
