MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) has achieved a significant academic milestone as its Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management (Honours) programme has secured full accreditation from the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS).
This recognition positions Curtin Malaysia among an elite group of institutions with internationally endorsed construction programmes, reaffirming its commitment to producing industry-ready graduates who can lead Sarawak’s green infrastructure transformation.
“This is a proud moment for Curtin Malaysia,” said Dr Low Wai Wah, Head of the Department of Built Environment at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences.
She credited the achievement to the dedication of teams at both the Miri and Perth campuses in maintaining academic excellence and fostering deep industry collaboration.
Low emphasised that the programme’s comprehensive curriculum, combined with strong industry partnerships, has consistently prepared students for successful careers in quantity surveying, project management, and construction consultancy.
“Our students are trained to tackle Sarawak’s infrastructure challenges while embracing global sustainability and digital innovation,” she added in a statement.
Meanwhile, Professor Vincent Lee, Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor, president and chief executive of Curtin Malaysia, highlighted the programme’s long-standing impact as a catalyst for change.
“For over seven years, we have embedded sustainability and digitalisation into every aspect of learning, from using green materials and integrating renewable energy to planning carbon-neutral projects,” he said.
Lee noted that Curtin Malaysia graduates are already making meaningful contributions to Sarawak’s green economy, supporting the state’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 targets and addressing the region’s critical infrastructure needs.
The four-year honours programme, recently updated in 2023, now includes a Quantity Surveying specialisation and features Industry 4.0 technologies, carbon-tracking tools, and content aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The curriculum provides rigorous training in construction technologies, cost estimation, project planning, contract administration, as well as leadership and communication skills, which is developed collaboratively with leading industry stakeholders in Malaysia and Australia.
Curtin Malaysia’s Construction Management programme is professionally recognised in both Malaysia and Australia, with accreditations from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM), and AIQS.
Its counterpart programme in Perth is also accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Australian Institute of Building (AIB), and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
