TELANG USAN: Over 500 people attended a grassroots engagement initiative organised by the Telang Usan District Office at Dewan SJK (C) Kee Tee in Long Lama.
The Randau/Townhall Programme 2025 brought together community leaders, government agencies, and elected representatives in a joint effort to promote development and transparent communication in the district.
The event was officiated by Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau who described it as a vital avenue for direct engagement between the government and the people.
“This programme provides an excellent platform for government departments and the rakyat to meet face-to-face and work together in addressing issues at the grassroots level,” he said.
Participants received updates on major government initiatives, including the District Development Implementation Report by the Telang Usan District Office, a session on Tourism Potential in Rural Areas by the Sarawak Tourism Board, and a Rural Infrastructure Development briefing by the Highland Development Agency.
A key highlight was the presentation of certificates to Ketua Masyarakat and Ketua Kaum (KMKK) in the Telang Usan and Mulu constituencies.
The recognitions included the appointment of two new Penghulu Kenyah (Penghulu Agustine Spen and Penghulu Anthony Ngau), 19 new Ketua Kaum (comprising Kayan, Kenyah, and Penan representatives), two service extensions, and appreciation awards for one Penghulu and six Ketua Kaum.
The event also honoured the Most Active JKKKs of 2024: JKKK Uma Bawang Kanan (Kayan), JKKK Long Moh Lepo Ngau (Kenyah), and JKKK Ba’ Pakan (Penan).
