LUNDU: The Sarawak government continues to strengthen rural infrastructure through a gravity-fed pipe system project in the Opar constituency that aims to expand access to clean water supply for Kampung Jantan, Kampung Jangkar and Kampung Tebaro.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said a stable and sufficient water supply is a fundamental component of rural community development.
“I hope this project will be implemented according to schedule and will soon benefit the villagers who have long awaited this facility,” he said when officiating the site handover ceremony organised by the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Lundu on Monday (Aug 5).
He also formally handed over the project site to the appointed contractors, who are expected to begin construction soon.
The gravity pipe system project is one of the initiatives under Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), aimed at expanding access to clean water supply in interior areas.
Using a gravity-fed method that channels water from natural sources directly to residential areas without relying on high-powered pumps, the system is expected to reduce long-term operating costs, especially ahead of the completion of the new water treatment plant along Jalan Biawak.
The official handover of the site marks the beginning of yet another key Sarawak government initiative to enhance the quality of life for rural communities, in line with the balanced and inclusive development goals of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
Also present were GKCDA administrative officer Badrulhisyam Muta-ee, JBALB Lundu supervising officer Hastomo Tommy and Lundu District Office administrative officer Mohd Syafiie Ahmad.
