KAPIT: Sarawak’s lush green forests and pristine rivers remain valuable assets with strong potential to drive ecotourism growth, said Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan.

He said that environmental conservation is not only vital for sustainability but also creates new economic opportunities for local communities.

“When our forests stay green and our rivers remain clear, it benefits the environment while also giving communities the chance to improve their livelihoods through nature-based tourism,” he said when officiating at the Community Landscape Greening Programme in Nanga Sepanyun, Sungai Matalau, Musah, recently.

Lidam added that preserving the natural environment will attract more visitors to experience Sarawak’s beauty, thereby strengthening job opportunities and income through community-based ecotourism.

The two-day programme featured community tree-planting activities in forest areas and around longhouses.

The initiative not only supports biodiversity conservation but also strengthens cooperation between local communities and agencies to ensure the long-term sustainability of Sarawak’s forests.
