TANJUNG MANIS: An early morning fire reduced a grocery storage shoplot in Kampung Cina Belawai to ashes today (June 7), causing extensive damage.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 3.30 am incident.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tanjung Manis station were dispatched to the scene, about 25km away, following a distress call.
Upon arrival, the team found the 30 x 30 feet shoplot, used as a storage facility for grocery goods, fully engulfed in flames.
They immediately launched extinguishing operations using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.
The blaze was brought under control at 4.16 am before being completely extinguished.
It was understood that the premises belonged to a 64-year-old man, who was unharmed in the incident.
Once the situation was deemed safe and there were no remaining hotspots that could reignite the fire, the operation ended at 5.24 am.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred have yet to be determined.
