KUCHING: A 26-year-old man with six previous drug-related criminal records was arrested following a police chase after he and an accomplice attempted to evade inspection during a crime prevention patrol in Jalan Tawi Sli on Thursday (Oct 30).

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said police spotted a white Perodua Kancil in a suspicious condition while conducting patrols in the area.

“When instructed to stop for inspection, the vehicle sped off, leading to a chase.

“Police managed to apprehend one of the suspects at Jalan Batu Kawa, while his accomplice fled the scene in the same vehicle,” he said in a statement.

Initial urine screening of the detained suspect returned positive for drugs, and checks revealed he had six past criminal records involving drug offences.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both.

Police are currently intensifying efforts to track down the other suspect still at large.

Alexson also urged members of the public with information on the case to contact the Kuching District Police Headquarters at 082-244444 or Investigating Officer Sergeant Nancy Nawi at 019-2320381.

He reminded the public not to spread unverified information or speculation regarding the incident.
