KUCHING: A 41-year-old woman with six prior records was among three people arrested in separate raids here, with police seizing more than 17g of suspected drugs worth RM1,146.
The first arrest was made at around 3pm on Sunday (Sept 13), when narcotics police detained a 25-year-old local man at Kampung Semariang Jaya.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said a search found 5.18g of suspected methamphetamine worth an estimated RM500.
The suspect also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine in a preliminary urine screening, while police checks revealed one prior criminal record.
He has been remanded for four days until Sept 18 to assist investigations.
Less than 12 hours later, police made another drug bust, this time outside a hotel along Jalan Tawi Sli at about 2.40am yesterday (Sept 14).
“A 41-year-old local woman and a 45-year-old local man were arrested during the operation by the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).
“Police found 11.73g of suspected methamphetamine and 0.85g of suspected Erimin 5 pills, with the drugs estimated to be worth RM646.
“The suspects tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and benzodiazepines (benzo).
“Background checks found that the woman had six prior criminal records, while the man had three,” he said.
Both have been remanded for three days until Sept 17 to assist investigations.
Alexson said all three suspects are being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries up to five years in prison and up to nine strokes of whipping, upon conviction.
He added that the arrests were the result of continued intelligence-gathering and cooperation from the public.
