Habitual offender back in prison for theft and drugs

KUCHING: A habitual offender was sentenced to prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for possessing a stolen motorcycle and drug-related offences.

Ricky, 27, from Stutong Baru, pleaded guilty to four charges read before two different magistrates.

He was charged before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Wan Alwi under Section 411 of the Penal Code with possessing a stolen Yamaha motorcycle belonging to a 22-year-old woman.

He was found in possession of the stolen motorcycle at Jalan Stutong Baru, Stampin, at around 3:50am on Feb 1.

The woman had on Dec 27 last year, realised that her motorcycle which she had parked in front of a hardware shop, was missing when she returned from work at about 11pm.

A police report was lodged, leading to his arrest at Jalan Stutong Baru.

In the same court, Ricky was also charged with two offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act for abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine in 2022 and 2016.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah sentenced him to eight months’ imprisonment for possessing stolen property and six months for drug abuse.

Meanwhile, in another Magistrate’s Court, he was sentenced to an additional eight months in prison under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for consuming methamphetamine.

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan also ordered Ricky to be placed under police supervision for three years after serving his prison sentence.

He has four prior records for housebreaking, one for theft and one for drug-related offences.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor ASP Arman Ibrahim and Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin.
