KUCHING: There has been no complaint or report of eateries or venues misusing the Halal certificate to attract Muslim customers to their outlets during the fasting month of Ramadan.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who is also in charge of Islamic Affairs, said thus far food entrepreneurs or premises have complied with the guidelines issued by the Department of Islamic Affairs Sarawak (JAIS).

“As of now, we have not received any complaint or report regarding the misuse of the Malaysian Halal certificate, by any eatery to promote their outlets during the fasting month of Ramadan.

“The food entrepreneurs and premises, thus far, have complied with the guidelines issued two weeks prior to Ramadan and the compliance standards are excellent,” he said during the breaking of fast (after the Iftar Perdana event held at the Square Tower at the Kuching Waterfront) at Masjid India here, Saturday.

He reiterated that only premises that have the ‘Halal’ logo are allowed to use the word ‘Ramadan’ to promote their buffet spreads for the breaking of fast.

“This is to prevent misunderstanding within the community, particularly among Muslims,” said Dr. Abdul Rahman.
